Associação Nova Escola:
National Indigenous Peoples Day

Work developed in March 2022 for Associação

Nova Escola.

The project was inspired by the work of artist Gê Viana, who explores the ancestry and role of indigenous peoples in shaping Brazilian culture. Her works are mainly characterized by the superimposition of historical images representing different ethnic groups and photographic records representing contemporary scenarios and situations.

Within this context, Nova Escola proposed that an illustration be created that could be superimposed  on an engraving by Hercules Florence, representing the Apiaká people. For the work, which would correspond to the current scenario, an indigenous school should be portrayed.

The image was used to illustrate the article Para além do Dia do Índio: como abordar história e cultura indígenas em sala de aula
